As a quite hot file extension, MP4 is widely used for saving media data and can be found in lots of places online or off line, which means, you may download MP4 videos from video sharing sites such as YouTube and Fox, or shared some MP4 videos from others, or captured by a camera (GoPro MP4 videos, Sony XDCAM EX MP4 camcorder videos, etc). But the problem with MP4 is, when you plan to edit the MP4 file with Avid Media Composer, you may be able to do this, but may be unable to. So what's the matter? Actually, Avid MC might not work with some MP4 files sometimes due to the codec issue or other reasons. In cases like these, you'd better convert the MP4 files to a more editing-friendly format, such an Avid's DNxHD codec (On Avid official website, it recommends DNxHD or XDCAM codec for editing, and DNxHD codec is the first choice).

Actually, it's not as difficult as you imagine. What's need is a just a MP4 to DNxHD converter like EaseFab Video Converter for Mac. With it, you can effortlessly transcode 720p/1080p MP4 files to DNxHD encoded MOV for Media Composer 5/5.5/6/7, and it works well and converts flawlessly. Meanwhile, the Mac Video Conversion tool can create files compatible with various non-linear editing systems like FCP, FCE, iMovie, and Adobe Premiere (Pro), etc. If you are running on Windows, get the Windows version here. Now just, download the program and achieve your goal smoothly.

Simple Steps to convert MP4 format to Avid supported DNxHD MOV

Step 1. Import MP4 files

Here you can directly drag & drop the MP4 files to the converter, or click "Add Video" button to load your video files. Batch conversion is supported so you can add many files at a time to save the conversion time. And as you see, added files can be previewed in the right Preview window and you can take snapshots of your favorite video scenes.
